Project Name: Geisha_2049 Footwear Design

Project Brief:

Geisha's wooden clogs serve as a visual representation of their social status, with higher-ranking geishas selecting clogs made from finer materials and crafted with more intricate techniques. However, the weight of these traditional clogs can increase the risk of injury for geishas who have yet to undergo sufficient training. To address this issue, this design proposal seeks to balance traditional craftsmanship with practical considerations.




Design Direction

Technology: This proposal utilizes 5-axis CNC technology to achieve a greater degree of design versatility, resulting in lightweight wooden clogs that are finished with Tang lacquerware techniques. Drawing inspiration from Christian Louboutin's innovative use of red soles in high-heeled shoes, the clogs feature hollowed-out portions adorned with intricate Tang lacquer patterns. In contrast, the rubber soles incorporate Tang lacquer-inspired designs to enhance grip.

The design concept for these wooden clogs centers on the desire to create a striking visual impact while reducing their overall weight. The hollowed-out portions of the clogs serve as an opportunity to incorporate Tang lacquerware techniques, resulting in a visually appealing and lightweight design. This approach helps to elevate the clogs beyond their traditional function, imbuing them with a sense of artistry and cultural significance.
